This is a 6-month internship paying £27K. This role is primarily office-based (Canary Wharf) with one hybrid day.

We are hiring an Operations & Automation Intern to work directly with the Head of Operations and Business Management on a focused, high-value project: replacing our current manual invoicing and billing process with a robust, code-based automated solution. Today this process involves drawing data from separate systems, applying exceptions logic, running multi-stage validations, and significant manual intervention to produce final files. Your job is to understand it in full and then build the tooling that makes it largely self-running.

Key Accountabilities:

• Embed with the operations team to map the existing invoicing process end-to-end: data sources, transformation logic, exception rules, validation steps, and manual outputs.

• Translate that process knowledge into a clear technical specification for the automation solution.

• Build a Python-based pipeline that ingests data from both source systems, applies all business rules and exception handling, executes the required validation checks, and generates accurate, client-ready invoices.

• Eliminate or substantially reduce manual copy-paste steps through scripted data transformation and output templating.

• Ensure the solution is robust: edge cases handled, errors surfaced clearly, and outputs auditable.

• Document the solution thoroughly so it can be maintained, extended, and handed over cleanly.

• Present progress at key milestones to the Head of Operations and relevant stakeholders.

 
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:
Essential

• Strong Python skills with hands-on experience in data; you are comfortable writing clean, readable, maintainable code.

• Excel proficiency: you can open a complex, formula-heavy workbook built by someone else, understand its logic, and translate it into code.

• Comfort working with structured data from multiple sources and encoding business logic programmatically, including exception paths.

• A rigorous approach to validation: you design for edge cases, not around them.

• Clear communication: you can explain what you have built and why to a non-technical audience.

Preferred
Background or coursework in finance, economics, fintech, or a related field.
